Changbin was born in Yongin, South Korea and grew up alongside his older sister. His dream has always been to become a singer, more precisely since the talent show at his school. He says that it was from that day on that he wanted to become a singer because he really loved the audience's reaction when he .

Later in 2016, he joined JYP Entertainment at the same time as Hyunjin. He was a trainee for two years before debuting with the group Stray Kids.
