ALL ABOUT STRAY KIDS FROM JYP

Stray Kids (SKZ) is a fairly recent South Korean boy band, since they debuted in 2018 and in a very short time they managed to gain popularity and become worldwide known. 

The group is made up of 8 members: Bang Chan who is the leader, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin and I.N.

But what you need to know is that originally they were not 8 but 9 members, the ninth member named Woojin had to leave the group in 2019 only 1 year after their debut, for personal reasons. 
The group is managed by JYP Entertainment as are, for example, GOT7, Twice, and many others.

Bang Chan

Bang Chan, whose real name is Christopher Bang, is the oldest (24 years old) and is the leader of the group, he is also a producer, vocalist, dancer, and rapper. He was born in Australia so he speaks English and Korean very well. He is part of the sub-unit 3RACHA, a trio formed by members of the group who compose and write for the group.

Lee Know

Lee Min Ho, whose stage name is Lee Know, 23 years old, is the main dancer of the group, and like Bang Chan he is also a vocalist and rapper. He joined the JYP agency one year before debuting as a member of Stray Kids, during this time he was part of the dancers for BTS.

Seo Changbin, also called Changbin, is 21 years old, he is the main rapper of the group, he is also the producer and composer since he is part of the sub-unit 3RACHA with Bang Chan and another member.

Hyunjin 

Hwang Hyunjin, 22 years old, is the group's "visual", he is also the main dancer alongside Lee Know and a vocalist. He is the tallest member of the group as he is 179 cm tall. He is well known for his expressions and reactions that make fans laugh a lot.

HAN

Han (Han Ji Sun), 21 years old, is the third and last member of the sub-unit 3RACHA, so he is a composer and producer but also a vocalist. Before auditioning and joining JYP, he studied and lived in Malaysia.

Felix

Felix is the dancer, rapper, and vocalist of the group, his Korean name is Yongbok but he hates being called that. He is 21 years old, and was born in Sydney, Australia and like Bang Chan, he speaks very good English. He moved to South Korea only after joining the JYP agency, so he had to learn Korean quite quickly. He is well known for being able to change the tone of his voice, from very high-pitched to very deep.

Kim Seungmin is the vocalist. He is 21 years old and people say he looks a lot like the singer Wonpil. He speaks English so he communicates a lot with the other English-speaking members.

I.N

I.N (Yang Jeongin) is 21 years old and is the youngest member of the group, in South Korea he is called the Maknae, he is mainly a vocalist. When he was 7 years old he was a model, people said he was very cute and that is still the case since Stray Kids fans (the Stay) have named him the cutest in the group.

How was the group formed?

The group members did not join the JYP agency at the same time, some have been there longer than others, such is the case of Bang Chan for example who joined the agency in 2010 following an audition in Australia, it was only 7 years later that he joined the group with the other members.

Even though the group debuted in 2018, it was formed in 2017 as part of a TV show called « Stray Kids », hence their group name. This show was a success which helped make the group known even before their debut. 

They chose to name their  fandom « Stay », which resembles the name of their group but especially means “to stay”, it’s a message they want to convey to their fans, so that they stay with them and support them, but also a message for those discovering the group, so that they stay and discover who they are and what they offer.

Their first MV (Music Video) called « Hellevator » was made during the show  and it is notably this song that made them known. Following that, they debuted with the mini-album « I Am NOT » which was later followed by the release of their second mini-album « I Am Who » and the third « I Am You » . 

Since then, the group has continued to surprise us with their various musical projects. At the beginning of their career, they were very active to the point of worrying their fans, but today they offer regular content and remain very active on social media. 

Recently they released an album called « ODDINARY » composed of 7 tracks including one that went viral « MANIAC ». 

 

To date, the group has won more than 20 awards, and it’s not about to stop there. 

 

Dangerous scandals 

Things have not always been perfect for the group, as they were the subject of two major scandals that halted their activities. The first was the scandal around the ninth member Woojin who left the group, to this day the story remains quite unclear, there are many rumors.

Then it was Hyunjin who was involved in a scandal for school violence on his part. Following the scandal, he publicly apologized and stayed in retreat for a while before returning to the group. Some even thought he would leave the group forever, as was the case with Woojin.
